Hi
As from April my partner an i are heading off for a year on the road.
We need to be able to access the
internet daily due to investments.
Is anyone currently using
satellite internet? Our data usage per day would be about 2 MB.
I believe the coverage for this is roughly west of a line drawn north to south through Mt Isa?
We have Wireless bigpond with external antenna and this is ok for populated area's but useless in the outback.

Needs Govt' approval and permanent residence with a fixed site for the dish, go for Wireless instead,

You will find your Bigpond will have access at or near all towns in the west, near
Mine sites, etc.
And if I were on holidays that is a way of leaving work behind and enjoying the scenery.if you get a signal , fine if you didn't , too bad

Hi Lyndon,
My experience with Inmarsat when used on Rally Australia in WA over the last few years was that data performance at and below the 32nd parallel was pretty marginal or unusable, both on Indian Ocean and Pacific satellites. Ok for speech, but bombed out on data traffic.
May be ok for the northern areas of Aust above 30deg.

Check carefully what you are looking at - rumour has it that RBGAN is being withdrawn at the end of this year, and I don't think RBGAN kit is any use for connecting to BGAN...
Sorry I don't know more about this.
